Mommy Makeover Breast Reduction

Most women will see their breasts enlarge significantly while carrying a baby and often, their breasts remain larger afterward and therefore sag. When breasts are large, they can cause a variety of problems, including back and neck pain and joint problems. Breast reduction, or mammoplasty, is another option as part of a Mommy Makeover.

The Surgery:
Most often an incision is made around the areola/nipple and extends down to the crease of the breast. Excess tissue and skin is removed, the skin is pulled together, and the areola and nipple are moved to a new location higher on the breast. During surgery, which is usually performed in a hospital setting, a small tube is placed in each breast to allow blood and fluids to drain. During the procedure fat and excess skin are removed to make the breasts smaller.

Recovery:
You may experience pain for a few days and your activities may be restricted. You will also be instructed on the proper support garments that need to be worn. It is most important that you follow postoperative instruction fully.

Results:
It may take some time before your breasts reduce from swelling and settle into their new shape. Your breasts will be significantly smaller based on the amount of breast tissue and skin removed. There is also a natural lift that takes place when skin is removed. Similar to a breast lift, there will be some scarring resulting from your breast reduction.
