Dr. Greg Ratliff and the staff of the Plastic Surgery Center of Tulsa will provide you with outstanding professional care and personal service throughout your experience with us.

An important feature of our service to you is that you can receive ALL of your care in one convenient location. Your first consultation, pre-op visit, surgery, and follow-up vist all take place in our offices on historic Cherry Street in midtown Tulsa. The presence of an on-site, state-of-the-art operating suite contributes greatly to the convenience and privacy of our patients.

Dr. Ratliff will provide you with specific instructions for the days immediately before and after your breast augmentation surgery. If you have questions of any kind, please talk with Dr. Ratliff or any member of our staff.

Breast enhancement surgery is an outpatient procedure. Dr. Ratliff performs the operation while you are sedated and under general anesthesia. The surgery itself usually takes an hour to complete.

During the procedure, the breast tissue and skin is lifted to create a pocket either behind existing breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. The implants are then centered beneath the nipples.

Care is taken to make the incisions in the least conspicuous area possible, such as in the crease where the breast meets the chest, around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), or in the armpit region. Dr. Ratliff will discuss these options with you prior to surgery.

Your incision will be closed with stitches and tape may also be used to help support the area. A gauze bandage is applied for support.

After surgery, you will rest in our recovery area and members of your surgical team will monitor your progress. When you are released from recovery, a designated adult must be present to drive you home.

Once you return home, you can expect to be tired and sore for the first few days. Medicine will be prescribed to help control any discomfort you may have. You may be instructed to wear gauze dressing and a surgical bra during the first several days.

Your stitches will usually be removed in a week to 10 days, but the swelling in your breasts may take 3-5 weeks to disappear. You may also experience a burning sensation in the nipples for about two weeks after surgery. This sensation will subside as the bruising fades.

You should be able to return to work within a few days after your operation, although your breasts may be sensitive for several weeks. Dr. Ratliff will advise you about returning to your normal activities.

Following breast augmentation surgery, it is always important to follow your doctor's recommendations for routine, screening mammograms. You should use a facility that has experience in performing mammograms on patients who have had breast implants, and you need to make sure you tell the technician you have had breast augementation.
